Hexham Farmers’ Market is a twice monthly farmers’ market based in the historic market town of Hexham in Northumberland. Our aim is to offer our customers a wide range of fresh, locally produced foods of a high quality and at a fair price.

You’ll find a wide range of meats, vegetables, breads and pies, soups, jams and pickles, cakes and beers and many other products.

All our products are produced within 50 miles of Hexham and you will always find someone on the stall who can tell you about the product they’re selling. After all, they are the producers of the foods and are passionate about what they do.

Our products change through the seasons and we celebrate that seasonality.

Hexham Farmers’ Market demonstrates good value for money

Food prices have been rising over recent months and the produce you buy at farmers’ market is expensive, right?  Well, the first part of that statement might be but the organizers of Hexham Farmers’ Market hope to demonstrate that you can get high quality, locally produced food and good value for money at a cookery demonstration this weekend.

Cookery coach, David Harris, from Wark, has been set the challenge to prepare a range of tasty dishes with farmers’ market ingredients costing just £10.  David will be going round the market, sniffing out bargains and showing that good, local food doesn’t have to cost the earth. He is an amateur cook and foodie who was taught to cook by his Mum.

David said:
“By sticking to seasonal produce and perhaps some of the cheaper cuts of meat, you can get excellent value for money and some very tasty meals too.  Of course, you’d want to make sure to get the best out of all your ingredients, so that might mean using chicken bones to make a tasty soup after  you’ve eaten the chicken meat.  I don’t yet know what I’ll make but I look forward to the challenge.”

Peter Samsom, Farmers’ Market Coordinator for Hexham said:
“It’s really a bit of fun and we hope that lots of people come to see what David prepares and maybe get inspired by it.  Locally produced food is good for the local economy, good for the environment but it also needs to show that it is good value.”

David Harris will be doing two cookery demonstrations on Saturday 9 July, the first one at 10.30 a.m. and the second one at 12.15 p.m.
