Hexham Farmers' Market celebrates spring in Northumberland

Saturday 27 April is the date of the Hexham Spring Fair and Eating Festival and Hexham Farmers' Market will be celebrating spring with two activities that are part of the festival.

Chef, Forager and Farmers' Market producer James Burton will be doing two cookery demonstrations using foraged, locally grown and very seasonal products. James' demos will be at around 11 am and 1.30 pm in the Hexham Market Place.

The market will also host a Recipe Wall where regulars, visitors and producers alike can share their favourite seasonal recipes, be it for something that's in season now, something that's about to come back to the market or an ingredient you'll find later in the season.  Anyone can bring their favourite recipe and share it with other people at the Spring Fair. After the event we'll put the recipes on the website as a way of sharing and we hope it will become a place where people will go to get inspiration to cook things they have bought at Hexham Farmers' Market, whatever the season.

What to do

On the day of the Spring Fair, Saturday 27 April 2013- please bring your favourite recipe using locally produced and seasonal ingredients to the stall in Hexham Market Place. There will be someone there to receive it and to group them by season on the wall. You'll have an opportunity to see the recipes others have brought, take inspiration from them and if you have a smartphone, you could take a picture of any recipe that tickles your fancy and take it home with you!

Each recipe should include

  • The relevant season
  • A list of ingredients (please identify those that are produced locally)
  • The number of people the recipe is for
  • Approximate preparation and cooking times
  • Oven temperatures (if appropriate)
  • Instructions of how to make it
  • A picture of the dish if you have it
  • Your name and contact email or phone number (neither will be published, just to check if
  • anything is unclear)
  • A bit of text about why this is a favourite
  • A picture of you and/or of the dish if you have them

PLEASE, put your recipe on a single piece of A4 paper if at all possible.

If you’ve found the recipe in another cookbook, please make sure it’s referenced.
